TRNC government installs red light traffic camera in Lefkosa, offenders to be prosecuted

The government of North Cyprus has installed it’s first red light camera at various point in Lefkosa.

One was installed at the roundabout near the Atatürk Sports Hall another at Yenikent, Gulzyurt high way round about.

Red light camera (short for red light running camera) is a type of traffic enforcement camera that captures an image of a vehicle which has entered an intersection in spite of the traffic signal indicating red (during the red phase).

The camera which will also capture vehicles which violate lanes will be activated next week.

Motorists will be informed when it becomes operational.

If successful, other red light cameras are expected to be installed across the island in the future.
