Two people missing at sea in North Cyprus, one found dead and the other still missing

Two young people, a boy and a girl who went swimming with their friends in the sea in Alagadi, north Cyprus on Saturday morning went missing after extreme waves hit the sea, one of them was later found dead.

The incident happened at about 11:30 am on Saturday in Alagadi when two young people who went to swim in the sea in the company of other friends suddenly went missing due to heavy waves in the sea. 

Someone swimming in another area of the beach found the lifeless body of one of the missing people who was taken ashore by Coast Guard teams.

The victim, a girl was identified as a 22-year old Gözde Nur Binbir. 

Search and rescue efforts are underway for the other missing person.

The other missing person was determined to be a 27-year-old person named Mehmet Ceyhan.

The search was called off at 6:30pm and will continue according to weather conditions on Sunday.

This is coming barely 24 hours after a student drowned at a the sea of Kyrenia due to excessive sea waves.
