Opening up of the TRNC is inevitable - Government

The TRNC can not continue to remain close as opening up to visitors was inevitable.

TRNC Health Minister Ali Pilli made the remark on Friday when he said that what was important was the public’s health but that it was impossible to remain closed forever.

Pilli pointed out that the whole world was gradually emerging from lockdown and was easing restrictions.

The public should not be concerned, they should only be careful and obey the rules, he said.

Pilli said that the risks of contracting or spreading the coronavirus would be reduced to a large extent if people wear masks, exercise social distancing and give attention to personal hygiene.

Responding to criticisms that the country’s health infrastructure was insufficient, the TRNC Health Minister said that drastic upgrades and improvements have been made since the start of the pandemic.

Our bed capacity has been increased, ventilators are ready and personnel numbers have been reinforced. We have also increased our testing capacity from the hundreds to the thousands, Pilli said.

He said that work to complete three hospital problems was underway.
