The People's Party on Tuesday withdrew from the coalition government.

The People's Party led by Mr Kudret Ozersay announced on Tuesday evening in Lefkosa that they have decided to pull out of the coalition after Prime Minister, Ersin Tatar undermined the government by travelling to Ankara and announcing the reopening of Varosha along with Turkey President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, a decision he made himself according to reports.

The coalition government comprising of UBP and HP was formed in May 2019 after the collapse of the four-way coalition government led by CTP leader, Turfan Erhuman.

Former coalition partners: Prime Minister, Ersin Tatar (L) and Deputy Prime Minister, Kudret Ozersay (R)

HALKAN  Party Chairman Yenal Senin made a press release after the decision.

The integrity of the state has been broken, its institutions have been disregarded, he said.

HP pointed out that Ersin Tatar is responsible for the stage reached.

He continued saying that the Minister of Foreign Affairs was not informed about the decision announced after the Erdogan-Tatar meeting in Ankara.

People's Party Chairman Yenal Senin said that they withdrew from the government, but that they would take responsibility until the new government was formed.

The Halkan party said the decision about the opening of Maraş (Varosha) was made by Ersin Tatar, they were not consulted on the issue.

The spokesperson of the Halkan party said that the  Maraş initiative should not be made an election material, he ended by saying the Varosha issue should be handled in line with international law.
