Two students sentenced to 3 years in prison by a court in Lefkosa for drug crime

Two Nigerians have been sentenced to 3 years in prison by a court in Lefkosa, north Cyprus for drug crime.

Earlier in the year, the pair were arrested and charged with possession of 300 grams of cannabis-type narcotics.

The court decision was announced on Thursday last week.

President of the Lefkosa High Criminal Court, Gazi who drew attention to the prevalence of drugs and the dangers they pose in society, noted that drug crimes cause serious unrest in society.

Gazi stated that those who commit drug crimes should be given deterrent as exemplary punishments.

Referring to the fact that the crimes committed by the defendants envisage a long-term prison sentence, Gazi emphasized that the crime of drug savings committed by the defendants is one of the common types of crime in the country recently, and that the defendant should be punished as a deterrent to other who may want to commit the same crime.

Gazi announced that after evaluating all the facts in favor of and against the defendants, they sentenced them to 3 years in prison for the drugs they found guilty and convicted of.
