11 refugees found hidden in truck at the Famagusta port

About 11 Syrian refugees were found hidden in a sugar-laden truck on a cargo ship at the Famagusta port on Sunday morning.

The discovery came about as a result of an operation carried out by the teams of the Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Directorate at the port at about 8:30am on Sunday

The ages of the refugees varies between 16 and 25.

Police said they were found hidden between sugar bags on the trailer. 

They were arrested and quarantined while police launched an investigation into the issue.

A 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident.
