TRNC government impose full lockdown until February, 15, all forms of movement banned

The government of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has declared a total curfew in all regions until February, 15. 

The new development was announced by TRNC Prime Minister, Ersan Saner on Thursday evening after two different meetings held by the Council of Ministers.

The Minister said the decision to completely close was due to the rising number of coronavirus cases in the country.

The new decision will take effect from 8:00pm on Friday, February, 5 until 5:00am on Monday, February, 15. 

The TRNC reported a record number of 80 cases on Thursday, less than 24 hours after it also reported a record number of cases on Wednesday. 

During this period, all 'special permissions' granted by municipalities police boards will be canceled while travels between districts are banned.

On Sunday, February, 7 and 14, no workplace other than pharmacies will be opened for business. Banks were also closed between February 8-12.

Except for pharmacies on duty, fuel station, markets, butchers, bakeries and essential services, every other businesses will be closed between February 5-15. These services will be opened until 5:00pm, and will only be opened for supply between 5:00pm and 8:00pm.

Restaurants and take-away services will be closed while sports activities including hiking are also banned.

Journalists and lab staff will be able to work and at the same time, public officials such as police, customs, health and fire brigade will be in service.
