First 40 degrees of the year recorded in Cyprus on Monday

Summer came too early this year with temperatures reaching over 40 degrees already.

The first 40C of the year was recorded on Monday in the island of Cyprus, with weather report stating that high temperatures are set to continue through the week.

In 2020, the first 40C was recorded on May 15, while in 2019, it was on May 28.

The Cyprus meteorological department on Monday said a warm air mass is affecting the area and the high temperatures are expected to drop on Wednesday but remain well above seasonal levels.

On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday the weather will be mostly clear, while in the evenings and early mornings, local light fog and low clouds are likely to form, mainly in the eastern half of the island.

The temperature is expected to gradually drop on Wednesday and Thursday but remain significantly above the average seasonal levels inland and in the mountainous areas. No significant change in temperature is expected on Friday, the met office said.
