Two foreigners arrested for 'deliberate damage' and 'illegal residency in North Cyprus

Two foreigners in the TRNC have been taken to court in North Cyprus for residing illegally in the island and intentional damage that took place in Lefkosa.

The two suspects are being investigated for the crime of intentional damaged committed on Tuesday, September, 28 and for living in the island illegally.

They were taken to a court in Lefkosa on Wednesday on charges of "unauthorized residence in the TRNC" and "intentional damage."

Police sergeant who testified in court said the police conducted an immigration check on the passport of one of the suspects, a 28-year-old Nigerian national who is being investigated for "Intentional Damage" and found out that his resident permit had expired since December, 31, 2020.

The second suspect, a 30-year-old Nigerian, has reportedly been living in the TRNC since 2019 without a resident permit.

Police said there were also suspicions that the suspects who damaged the door of a person's apartment had a drug dispute.

Police said the suspects were caught red-handed and arrested during the 'deliberate damage.

Police stated that investigation against the suspects has just begun and that there are statements that need to be taken.

Evaluating the testimony given in court, the judge ordered the suspects to be detained for 2 days so that the investigation could be conducted safely.
