TRNC Prime Minister forms new government after the government's resignation last week

The Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Faiz Sucuoğlu who resigned as Prime Minister last week over disagreement with the Minister of Finance, Sunat Atun has formed a new government.   

Faiz Sucuoğlu who is also the leader of National Unity Party (UBP), announced his new cabinet on Monday after receiving President Ersin Tatar’s approval.

In the new cabinet, Sunat Atun, was replaced by Olgun Amcaoğlu

The cabinet for the new the UBP-DP (Democrat Party)-YDP (Rebirth Party) coalition government was read out in parliament this afternoon.

The new Council of Ministers is as follows:

  • Prime Minister Faiz Sucuoğlu (UBP)
  • Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment Fikri Ataoğlu (DP)
  • Minister of Economy and Energy Kutlu Evren (UBP)
  • Minister of Foreign Affairs Tahsin Ertuğruoğlu (UBP)
  • The Minister of Finance Olgun Amcaoğlu (UBP)
  • Minister of Interior Ünal Üstel (UBP)
  • Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı (YDP)
  • Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu (UBP)
  • Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources Dursun Oğuz (UBP)
  • Minister of Health Ali Pilli (UBP)
  • Minister of Labour and Social Security Hasan Taçoy (UBP)

The government became the 27th government of the country.

Discussions on the program will begin two full days after the government program has been read out in parliament and a vote of confidence will be held one full day after the talks have been completed.

The last government, has been recorded as the shortest-lived government period in the history of the TRNC.

Faiz Sucuoğlu, is also the 15th prime minister of the TRNC and 8th prime minister from the UBP.

Faiz Sucuoğlu, had in the past served as Minister of Tourism, Minister of Health and Minister of Labor and Social Security and prime minister for the third time.
