Man caught with fake passport on border between north and south Cyprus

A man who tried to enter the TRNC from south Cyprus was found carrying a fake Spanish passport.

The suspect identified only as MEB, 21, was arrested on October, 31 and taken to court on November, 9 on charges of using fake official documents and impersonating someone else.

Police officer who testified in the court regarding the issue, stated that the suspect who on 31.10.2022, wanted to cross north from the Lokmacı Crossing Point, gave a fake Spanish passport issued in the name of Jimenez Posada, in his possession, to the immigration officer in charge thereby posing as someone else and using fake official documents.

Police also stated that when the suspect was taken to the Forensic Branch for investigation, he had a fake Bulgarian passport with his own photo on it, issued in the name of someone else.

Police said the the suspect entered the country with this passport with a 30-day visa from Beyarmudu Crossing Point on 02.10.2022. It was also determined that the suspect entered the country with a 15-day visa from Ercan Airport on 23.09.2022 with his original identity.  

The police stated that the suspect had no legal status and demanded that he be put on trial.

The judge ordered that the suspect be held in prison for no more than 2 months.
