Two foreigners sentenced to 20 months in prison each for theft

Two men who were fingered in a robbery incident in Haspolat has been sentenced to 20 months in prison each by a Lefkosa court.

The defendants who are both Nigerians were both arrested on May, 16, 2022 in connection with a robbery incident in Haspolat district of Lefkosa.

The defendants broke into the house of Abdul Hashiru BANGURA and Osman Daniel SESAY on the day and stole a Dell laptop belonging to Abdul Hashiru Bangura, an I Phone brand mobile phone, a gray men's wallet, 200 Euro cash and the cob belonging to the Hyundai Getz brand vehicle with KC 833 license plate, inspection, navigation and insurance documents.

The verdict was delivered by a court in Lefkosa on Tuesday.

The court judge who delivered the judgement announced the unanimous decision of the committee which constitutes the Lefkosia Heavy Penal Court. The judge underlined that the crime of robbery is a very serious crime.

He pointed out that the crime of robbery caused unrest in the society and announced that they unanimously sentenced the defendants to 20 months in prison for admitting their crimes and contributing to the early manifestation of justice.
