The TRNC Veterinary Department has announced that bird flu was suspected in pigeons belonging to a person in Çayönü, and definitive diagnosis studies are being carried out.

The Veterinary Department in a written statement stated that the manufacturer in question notified the department after detecting a "high rate of death" among its pigeons, and that the suspicion of "Bird Flu" was determined in the autopsies.

"Samples necessary for the laboratory diagnosis of the disease have been taken and definitive diagnostic studies are continuing," the statement said.

The department announced that as a precautionary measure, all other pigeons in the poultry house were "destroyed" by the Veterinary Department and Beyarmudu Municipality teams.

"Other poultry businesses and farms in the region are being monitored by the Veterinary Department," the statement said.
