Gambia Vice president meet with TRNC Minister of Education, discuss the plight of Gambian students in the country

The Vice-President of Gambia, Badara Alieu Joof who paid a courtesy visit to the TRNC earlier this week meet with the TRNC Minister of Education, Nazım Çavuşoğlu to exchange view on the situation of Gambian students studying at TRNC universities.

During the meeting on Thursday, Çavuşoğlu conveyed to Joof, the importance of developing mutual relations between the two countries as well as the cooperation that will be carried out in the field of education. They also spoke on the developments in higher education and studies that can be carried out in education.

Çavuşoğlu also briefed Joof about the situation of Gambian students in the TRNC, stating that Gambian students had adjusted well to life in the TRNC.

He pointed out that the ‘Student Friendly Island project’ was being implemented and that universities in the TRNC provided quality education.

Çavuşoğlu noted that university students from over 144 different countries were receiving higher education in a peaceful environment.

He added that the Ministry was doing all it could to ensure that foreign students in the TRNC were able to complete their education in a peaceful environment.

Badara Alieu Joof for his part stated that he believed that cooperation could be expanded between the two countries in the field of education, as well as in other fields.

Joof also thanked Minister Çavuşoğlu for the sensitivity shown to Gambian students.

Joof also met with TRNC president, Ersin Tatar on Wednesday.

***I hope the Gambian students took time to meet with their vice president and use the opportunity to tell him the challenges they are facing. Their government can also help them with scholarships and accommodation.
