Two men stole car in south Cyprus and sold it to a scrap dealer in north Cyprus

Two young men who stole a car in south Cyprus and sold it to a scrap dealer in north Cyprus have been arrested by the police.

The suspects identified only as AD, 21 and AT, 20 were arrested on Thursday for fraudulently obtaining 22,000 TL in cash after selling a vehicle stolen from the south to a scrap dealer operating in Güzelyurt.

They were caught in the "Cross-Border" operation carried out by the police team of ADSK and AT of the Güzelyurt Police Department.

They were taken to court on Thursday on charges of car theft and the vehicle  in question was taken as a circumstantial evidence.

Describing the details of the incident at the court, the police said that it was determined that the suspects obtained 22,000 TL in cash by selling the car they stole from the south of Cyprus on Wednesday, 21 December to a scrap dealer operating in Güzelyurt.  

The police reported to the court that the Güzelyurt Police Department teams launched an investigation upon the complaint, that the vehicle was found and taken as an indication, and that the suspects were arrested.  

Subsequently, the police demanded that the suspects' voluntarily testified, that their statements should be confirmed and refuted, and that there were other statements to be taken and camera footage to be examined, and that the suspects be detained in the police for 2 days in the first place.

Evaluating the testimony given in its presence, the court ordered the suspects to be detained by the police for 1 day for investigation purposes.
