Woman sentenced to 13 years in prison for drug smuggling

A woman has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for importing/exporting and selling illegal class A drugs. 

The judgement was delivered on Tuesday.

The defendant, Zümrüt Deniz, was caught with 6.7 kilos of heroin-methamphetamine with a market value of 10 million TL during operation ‘Black Rose’ carried out by the narcotics branch of the police in Lefkosa on February, 14, 2022.

Police at the time said the case was in connection with Pakistan - Iran - Southern Cyprus and Northern Cyprus gang who has been followed for a long time by the Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Directorate.

Judge Murat Soytaç announced the unanimous decision taken by the court committee at Nicosia Heavy Penal Court consisting of Lefkcosia Heavy Penal Court President Fadıl Aksun, Senior Judge Vedia Berkut Barkın and Judge Murat Soytaç.

It was stated that this decision was made unanimously regarding the accused Zümrüt Deniz because of the public interest.
