Greek Cypriot police looking for man after Sunday night’s murder

Greek Cypriot police on Monday issued an arrest warrant for Osama Aldheis from Syria following the murder of his compatriot Alsweidani Ahmad, 21, on Sunday night.

The incident took place at around 9:40 on Sunday night when police received a report that shots had been fired in a central Nicosia street. Police arrived at the scene where they found the 21-year-old seriously wounded.

The victim was immediately taken to Nicosia general hospital, where it was confirmed he had been shot in the head. Despite doctors’ efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries at around 10:45 pm.

According to reports, the 21-year-old was riding in a vehicle with another person, and, at some point, unknown persons opened fire on them.

It is believed the shooter got out of a vehicle and approached the victim’s vehicle on foot.

Reports said the vehicle the two were in was riddled with bullets and the murder was linked to differences between groups in the underworld. The two were known to police for previous offences.

The Syrian alleged perpetrator and his compatriot victim were chatting a few minutes before the fatal shooting, according to witnesses.
