More jail time for students who made another student jumped to his death in Haspolat

The two suspects IE, 30 and AA, 23 who were arrested in connection with the death of a Nigerian student in Hapsolat will remain in detention for another 8 days. 

The suspects who are being charged with crimes of “Willful Murder” that took place in Haspolat, on January, 10, 2023 and another suspect who helped them escaped to south Cyprus after the incident were paraded in court on Tuesday.

The court ordered the suspects IE and A. A to be held in police custody for 8 days for investigative purposes while FE who helped them escaped to south Cyprus will be detained of a period not exceeding 3 months.

The unfortunate incident happened at around 12:55pm on January, 10, at the Belediye Evleri Apartments on Second Street, Haspolat following a dispute.

Police said the suspects IE and AA were resident in a flat in the municipality house located in Haspolat.

The suspects threatened Chukwudi Oliver Nwauuisi who came to discuss the deposit issue in the living room of the apartment with a wooden-handled axe.

They caused Nwauuisi to jump from the open balcony of the residence to the concrete floor from a height of 10m.95 cm from the ground,

He was taken to the Lefkosa State Hospital emergency service where he was kept under observation inn the Neurology Intensive Care Service but passed away on January 24.

IE and AA, both Nigerians, who were responsible for the incident fled to south Cyprus afterwarda with the help of FE.

They were caught in south Cyprus on Saturday, January, 21, as a result of correspondence between north and south Cyprus made through the Bi-Communal Technical Committee on Crime and Crime Issues.

They were brought to the north through the Kermiya crossing point and arrested afterwards.

Police said the investigation initiated regarding the issue continues and there are statements that need to be taken and demanded that the suspects be detained in the police for 8 more days so that the investigation can be carried out safely.

He stated that the suspect FE was on trial for the crime of “forming alliance to commit a serious crime.”
