Turkish Cypriot man detained for sexually assaulting his child for three years

Turkish Cypriot police has detained a man for allegedly assaulting his son sexually for three years.

The man identified only as HA was arrested last week for sexually assaulting and sexually abusing his 10-year-old child between the period 2020- February, 15, 2023.

After the matter came to the knowledge of the police, an investigation was launched into the incident leading to the arrest of the suspect.

He was taken to court on Friday on charges of allegedly "sexually assaulting and sexually abusing" a 10-year-old child.

Police said the 10-year-old victim have started therapy and had refused going to school.

The abuse has been going on since he was 7 years old.

The police stated that statements were taken from the complainant and his mother, accompanied by an expert.

Stating that the suspect and the complainant should be checked by a doctor at Barış, Mental and Neurological Diseases Hospital, the police demanded that the suspect be detained for 3 days.

Appearing in court again on Monday, police said the mother of the child was putting pressure on the child to drop the case.

His detention was extended for another 8 days.
