Building inspections being carried out in Lefkoşa

The work initiated by the Lefkoşa Turkish Municipality with the Union of the Cyprus Turkish Chambers of Engineers and Architects to test buildings whether they are earthquake resistant and durable continues.

As a first step, a visual inspection is held and home owners, if the need arises, are informed of the procedure they need to follow. A 185 hotline has been allocated for inspections.

A statement released from the Lefkoşa Turkish Municipality said that technical work had been launched to check every stage of the construction of new buildings and for the joint portal for supervision to be followed.

“This way, new constructions to be built in the double-supervised system will be controlled by both the municipality and the relevant chambers,” the statement read.

The statement added that a committee consisting of the Lefkoşa Turkish Municipality, the Chamber of Civil Engineers and the Chamber of Earth Science Engineers will participate in the technical work to be organized by the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

It was also noted that the Solidarity Centre set up in Yenişehir continues to offer food, clothing and other aid materials to meet the basic needs of more than a thousand earthquake victims who are currently settled in the city.
