Five injured in 3 different accidents in one night, two caused by drunk driving

It has been reported that two out of every three accidents in the TRNC is caused by drunk driving.

This is coming after a total of five people were injured in three different accidents across the country on Sunday.

Police said the cause of two of the three traffic accidents that occurred on Sunday evening and Sunday midnight were as a result of drunk driving.

In one of the accident on the Lefkosa-Girne highway that happened at around 10:30 on Sunday, three people were injured when their vehicle vehicle which was driven by Turkish Cypriot, MT, 29 towards the direction of Girne overturned.

MT, ZS, 22 and SS, 11 were taken to the Lefkosa State Hospital for treatment.

In another incident, 3 people including two children were injured in an accident that happened in Lefkosa northern roundabout at 12:30am on Monday.

The accident happened because the driver of the vehicle was drunk.

FÖ, 40, a Turkish Cypriot was driving under the influence of alcohol when he lost control of the wheel at the round about due to reckless driving and crashed into the concrete embankment.

EÖ, 37, AEÖ, 12 and AÖ, 9 who were injured in the accident were taken to the Lefkosa State Hospital for treatment. 

The third incident happened at around 5:30pm on Sunday on Yonca Street, around the Long Beach round about, Iskele. Police said KA, 32, a Nigerian was under the influence of alcohol when he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the pavement on the side of the road.  

The driver of the vehicle was arrested.
