Greek Cypriot arrested by Turkish Cypriot police in Lefkosa after he was caught with drugs

A 35-year-old Greek Cypriot man has been arrested by Turkish Cypriot police in Lefkosa on charges of drugs.

The suspect, identified only as AG, 35 was arrested within the scope of 'Operation White Arrow' carried out by a team of Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention in Kermiya region, Lefkosa at around 6:30pm on Saturday, March, 25.

Police said the suspect was arrested despite trying to escape from the police and was caught with approximately 1 kilo of drugs in his car and in the bag he left under a tree.

He was taken to a court in Lefkosa on Sunday.

Police said the police had demanded the suspect to stop during traffic inspection, but the suspect did not stop and instead hit a police vehicle while he was trying to escape.

The police stated that after the incident, the suspect was detected at a petrol station in Gönyeli and this time he tried to escape on foot, but was neutralized and arrested.

The police informed the court that during the control of the vehicle, a weight of approximately 28 grams was found in a transparent bag.

The police demanded that the suspect was taken to the branch and that he had confession-related statements during his interrogation accompanied by a Greek interpreter, that these statements would be investigated and there were also camera footage that needed to be examined.

Evaluating the testimony given in court, the judge ordered the suspect to be detained for 3 days at the first stage for investigation purposes.
