House agent who is in the habit of scamming students of their money arrested in Lefkosa

A Turkish Cypriot man who is in the habit of scamming students and obtaining money fraudulently from as an agent has been arrested by the police.

The suspect Shadi Rami Cafer, was arrested on Wednesday, March, 22 and taken to a court sitting in Lefkosa on Thursday, March, 23, on charges of obtaining money fraudulently.

Testifying in court, police said the suspect on December, 17, 2022 in Lefkosa fraudulently obtained 1,700 USD in cash from the complainant Abdullah Arif Osman by making a false statement, that he wants to rent out the house where he was living in Yenikent, which has not yet been identified.

Also, on February, 24, in Lefkosa, the same suspect fraudulently obtained $2,500 in cash from another complainant, Hussein Abbas by making a false statement that he want to rent out a house in the Marmara region where someone else was actually staying.

On March, 9, 2023, the suspect again fraudulently obtained 820 STG cash from Nancy Limbu by making a false statement, he want to rent out his house he was living in Küçük Kaymaklı, which has not yet been identified.

Police said that on March, 15, 2023, in Lefkosa, the suspect also fraudulently obtained 2,250 STG cash from Cokev Temitope by making a false statement, that he want to rent out the house where he living in Küçük Kaymaklı, which has not been identified yet.

On March, 16, 2023, the suspect fraudulently obtained 1,620 STG cash from the complainant Gabriel Sinkamba by making a false statement that he want to rent out a house in Küçük Kaymakli region where someone else was living, which has not yet been identified.

On Marc, 17, 2023, the suspect fraudulently obtained 1,935 STG cash from the complainant Nashwa Abdulrafe by making a false statement that he want to rent out a house in the Gönyeli region where someone else was actually living. 

The police said investigation regarding the issues was launched after a complaint was received on Wednesday, March, 22 which led to his identification and arrest in Lefkosa as per a pending court order. 

Police stated that the investigation into the matter has just begun and that a total of 6625 STG and 4200 dollars cash that he had received from the complainants by by false statement could not be found yet. 

The police said that the houses that the suspect had intended to rent out by false statement to the complainants had not yet been identified.

Stating that “It is obvious that if the suspect is released, he will interfere with the necessary signs and the statements to be taken, the police requested that the suspect be kept in police custody for 1 day so that investigation can be conducted safely.”
