Three men who assaulted a Nigerian student detained in prison for 2 months until trial

Three students who were arrested in connection with a robbery incident that took place in Lefkosia – Ortaköy, were found to living illegally in the country.

Two of the suspects were arrested on Friday, March, 3 in Lefkosa following a complaint from Nigerian student they robbed and assaulted in Lefkosa. The third was arrested on Saturday March, 4 in Haspolat.

They were taken to court for the second time on Tuesday.

The suspects at around 11:30pm on Thursday, March, 2 went to the apartment of one Anthony Martins Idaudu located in Ortaköy where they assaulted him and stole his phone. They then drove him in a car and abandoned him in front of the Lefkosa State Hospital.

Police in a court statement said the suspects said they went to the victim's house because he did not want to make peace with them. They met him in his bedroom and beat him up following an argument.

They took 5,000 TL cash and a Iphone 13 pro max brand mobile phone worth 1,450 USD lying on the bed.

Police said they then forced the victim out of his house, took him to the front of the Lefkosia State Hospital, left him there and drove away in a taxi.

Police said the suspects voluntarily gave their statements and confessed to their crimes. 

An investigation carried out on them revealed that they were living in the country illegally.

The court judge ordered that the suspects be detained in prison for a period not exceeding 2 months until trial.
