Two detained after they were caught with cannabis

Two Turkish Cypriot men who were caught with drugs last week has been detained for another five days pending investigation.

The suspects named only as Y.A and E.T were arrested on Wednesday, March, 1 and taken to court on charges of illegally importing drugs, cannabis and cocaine. 

They were brought back to the court again on Friday.

Police in a court statement said the suspects, YA, and ET who were involved in the crime of Importing and Saving Illegal Drugs, Cannabis and Cocaine were identified and arrested by the Directorate of Narcotics and Smuggling at around 11:00am on Wednesday, March, 1 in Ortaköy.

Police stated that they found 250 grams of cannabis-type drugs believed to be drugs in 9 separate bags, and 2 black backpacks which were taken as evidence. 

Police also stated that in 12 separate packages in the backpack hidden under the rocks in the region, approximately 150 grams of a narcotic drug believed to be a cocaine type drug and three packages of cannabis weighing approximately 80 grams were found. 

The police told the court that they started an ambush duty following a tip off and found suspect YA, who came came to buy the subject materials in his vehicle. He was arrested with force. 

The police stated that in the suspect's vehicle, 5 grams of cannabis type drugs, believed to be a cannabis type drug, were found, a black backpack and a sensitive scale believed to be drug residues, and an indication was taken. 

On the same day, police ET, 35 was identified in Lefkosa after he was determined to be connected with the issue. 7 pills believed to contain drugs, believed to be Indian Cannabis type drugs weighing approximately 2 grams, and believed to have been obtained from the sale of drugs, 7545 TL and 950 Euro cash money was found on him.

They were detained for another 5 days for more investigation to be carried out.
