A student who was involved in an accident that killed two people in June, 2022, has been sentenced to 6 years in prison.

The court decision was announced on Monday, March, 3.

Announcing the court decision, the court president said;

“The seriousness of the crimes the accused is convicted of, the traffic accidents and the deaths occurring in traffic are grave crimes that are still on the rise, that such crimes cause irreparable pain in terms of their consequences, and that there are crimes that must be prevented, and that the Supreme Court's decision while appraising punishment for such crimes, we find it appropriate to impose a prison sentence on the accused based on the principles that the punishment should be assessed in order to protect the public interest rather than the private situation of the accused.

When we evaluate that the accused lost control of his vehicle by driving quickly and as a result caused the death of two innocent people, in order to keep the accused away from the traffic until he can drive in accordance with the traffic rules and to deter those who are inclined to commit such crimes, a period of additional punishment is given to the accused.
