Student to remain in detention until trial over accident that killed a Nigerian in north Cyprus

The suspect, Boris Kemka Tchinda Lambou who hit and injured William Ejieta Klines with a vehicle in a fatal traffic accident while crossing the road and then lead to his death, will be released on bail or sent to prison for a period of 3 months until trial if he can't meet the bail conditions.

William Ejieta Klines, 32 was trying to cross the road on foot when he was hit by a vehicle driven by Boris KEMKA TCHİNDA LAMBOU, 30, an African student at around 11:40pm on Sunday April, 2 in front of the Honda traffic light on Dr. Fazıl Küçük Boulevard in Lefkosa, north Cyprus.

Willian who was seriously injured in the accident was first taken into the intensive care unit at the Lefkosa State Hospital in Lefkosa and then transferred to the Suat Günsel Hospital in Girne where he had been receiving treatment but passed away on Tuesday, April, 11.

Police said Boris KEMKA TCHİNDA LAMBOUwho was arrested following the accident was driving carelessly. He was brought to court several times and detained for several days.

He was brought back to court again on Wednesday, April, 12 after a period of detention.

Speaking in court, police said that nothing was detected in the suspect's blood, but 341 promyl alcohol and drugs were detected in the blood of the victim who died in the incident.

Police stated that the investigation, which could affect the suspect, has been completed and demanded that the court bound the suspect by the appropriate guarantee.

The court decided that the suspect should be sent to prison as a non-custodial prisoner for a period not exceeding 3 months on the grounds that he could not fulfill his bail conditions.

Evaluating the testimony given in court, the judge, stated that if the suspect cannot fulfill his bail conditions; deposits 150,000 TL of cash collateral, report to the police 1 day a week, and that bring 3 guarantors to sign a bail bond of 500,000TL each, he will be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 3 months until trial.
