Turkish Cypriot man assaults ex girl friend, broke car window in Hamitköy

A Turkish Cypriot man who was arrested for violence against a woman will face trial for assault and theft.

The suspect named only as H.Ş. committed the crime on Friday, April, 14, 2023.  He was arrested and taken to court on Saturday, April, 15.

Police said the suspect harassed his ex-girlfriend named only as Ü.B by repeatedly calling her on the phone. When she did not answer, he went to her apartment located in Hamitköy and entered through the open kitchen door without permission. The victim then left the house to her vehicle but the suspect prevented her from entering the vehicle while issuing threats of violence. He threatened her saying "I will kill you, if you do not reconcile".

Police also stated that the suspect stole two glasses from the inside pocket of the driver's door at the time of the incident.  

The police also stated that the suspect fell to the ground after his ex hit his motorcycle twice with the vehicle. The suspect got up and broke the window of the driver's door of the vehicle.

Police said the suspect then beat the woman, took the car key and fled the scene.

The police said that on the same day, the complainant was checked by a doctor, and in the examination, it was determined that the broken glass pieces caused temporary scratches on her eyes, and the photos of the crime scene and the camera footage of the incident were taken and statements were obtained from eyewitnesses.

The police said that the same day, the suspect was arrested as per the pending order obtained from the Lefkosa District Court, and that the items he stole were identified and taken as evidence.

The police demanded that the suspect, who is a TRNC citizen and an operator, be given a suitable guarantee until their case is heard.

Evaluating the testimony given in court, the judge released the suspect on bail, banned him from going abroad, report to the police once a week, bring two guarantors to sign a personal bond of 100,000 TL and deposit a cash collateral of 15,000TL.
