Two students arrested for sexual harassment and assaulting police officers in Lefke

Two men who verbally abused 2 women in Lefke at the weekend while under the influence of alcohol and attempted to beat police officers who came to the scene  were arrested with “reasonable force”.

The suspects who are African students committed the act at in a public place at Atatürk Caddesi in Lefke, around 8:00pm on Friday, April, 7.

They were taken to court on Saturday on charges of sexual harassment, use of fowl language, inappropriate behavior, police assault.

Police said the suspects named AI and BCZ cursed two women by telling them, told the women, “F. Turkish, F. Cyprus" while they were under the influence of alcohol. He said they acted inappropriately by shaking them making a disturbance, shouting loudly without any reasonable excuse, and shaking their hands randomly.

Police said they went to the scene of the incident after a complaint and that the suspects resisted the police by beating the police and preventing them from doing their duty.

Police said the suspects were later arrested using reasonable force.

The police stated that the investigation initiated regarding the issue continues and the statements of the suspects will be confirmed and refuted, and that the camera footage in the region will be examined.

The court ordered the suspects to be detained by the police for 2 days for investigation purposes.
