20 percent of the TRNC population has hypertension

It has been revealed that about 20 percent of the society have hypertension.

Turkish Cypriot Heart Health and Diseases Specialist  Dr. Gülgün Vaiz on Wednesday noted that hypertension is a treatable disease that lasts a lifetime.

Dr. Gülgün Vaiz made an informative statement on hypertension on behalf of the Turkish Cypriot Medical Association due to May 17 World Hypertension Day.

The preacher noted that with the drugs used, blood pressure returned to normal, and when the treatment was discontinued, it rose to its previous values.

The preacher said, “The treatment should be arranged under the supervision of a doctor. A visit to the doctor should be made at least once a year. Kidney disease, hormonal and vascular causes that may lead to hypertension should be investigated. said.

Dr. The preacher also shared the following information about the harms of hypertension:

“Hypertension can cause cerebral hemorrhage, stroke, loss of vision, heart failure, kidney failure, coronary artery disease, aortic ruptures. If blood pressure is treated, it is possible to prevent these complications.”

Stating that the drugs used in hypertension are not habit-forming, the Preacher said, “  However, as the vascular elasticity decreases with age, or if there are new diseases specific to the patient due to seasonal changes, if different drugs are required to receive treatments (such as chemotherapy or cortisone), it may be necessary to change the drug doses.” said.

“20 percent of the population has hypertension”

Stating that 20 percent of the society has hypertension, Preacher stated that this rate increases with age, that 50 percent of individuals over the age of 60 have hypertension, so it is necessary to visit a doctor at least once a year.

Referring to the awe that should be considered when measuring blood pressure, the Preacher said, “You should rest for at least 5 minutes before blood pressure is measured. You must not have had caffeinated drinks or cigarettes in the last half hour.” said.

The preacher also shared the following information about the side effects of hypertension medications:

“Each medication can have its own side effects. Various drug options are available for treatment. The treatment is planned by the attending physician according to the individual health conditions of the patients. In general, the benefit to be obtained from the treatment is more than the problems caused by the side effects of the drug. Therefore, hypertension is a disease that needs to be treated.”
