70 Traffic accidents recorded in the last one week in the TRNC with 19 people injured

A total of 70 traffic accidents occurred in the country in the last one week with 19 people injured.

Driving at high speed was among the causes of accidents and among the reasons for which drivers were reported.

According to a statement released by the Police Press Office, 14 of the accidents that occurred during the period covering 24-30 April resulted in 19 injuries and 56 resulted in damage. 

23 of the accidents were caused by driving fast, 15 of them were due to careless driving, 12 of them were not stopping at the intersection, 9 of them were following closely and 11 of them were other factors.

The total damage amount was 2,583,500 TL, 23 of them in Lefkcosia, 23 of them in Kyrenia, 14 of them in Famagusta, 5 of them in Güzelyurt and 5 of them in Iskele.  

During the same period, as a result of the traffic controls carried out by the police throughout the country, a total of 12,986 vehicle drivers were checked and 1454 vehicle drivers who were found to have committed crimes were reported and legal action was initiated against them.

The distribution of reported crimes is as follows:

“Speeding (384), dangerous driving (13), reckless driving (30), driving without a navigation license (106), driving without a driving license (6), driving under the influence of alcohol (39), using a mobile phone while driving ( 164), driving without a seat belt (167), not obeying traffic signs and signs (204), not obeying traffic lights (4), driving without inspection (32), driving without insurance or out of its scope (42), "a" road use without permission driving a vehicle (8), riding a motorcycle without a protective helmet (5) and 250 other traffic offenses.”
