One student arrested, two other wanted for assault on two Turkish citizens in Lefkosa

Turkish Cypriot police said it arrested one of three people who assaulted two people in Lefkosa due to an argument between them.

The incident between a group of African students and a group of Turkish citizens happened in in Lefkosa at around 7:00pm on Sunday, April, 30.

One of the suspect identified only as KN, from Swaziland was arrested following a complaint by the victims and taken to court on Tuesday on charges of serious assault.

Police said the suspect and two others at large severely battered Mehmet Kalaycılar and İbrahim Kalaycılar, on a public place in Terminal, Lefkosa. Police said they were looking for 2 other unidentified people connected to the incident.

Mehmet Kalaycılar and İbrahim Kalaycılar were reportedly hit on their bodies while they were seated in the same place following a verbal argument between them. Police said the suspects laid their hands on the vicitms, beat them seriously and hit them on the feet.

They were checked by a doctor on the same day and a tomography was obtained due to the blows one of them received on the head but the doctor's reports could not be obtained yet.

Police said the crime of grave damage was also likely to occur in the matter. 

The police said that since the investigation into the matter had just begun, there were camera footage and statements to be taken and demanded that the suspect be kept in police custody for 3 days.
