Student arrested and released on bail for filming a teenager with his phone in Lefkosa

A student has been accused of verbally abusing and then videotaping a 14-year-old boy on a street in Lefkosa.

The suspect, named only as ROO was arrested and taken to court in Lefkosa on Tuesday on charges of "Violation of the Privacy and Disturbance of Private Life".

Police officer who testified in court said the victim, a 14-year-old boy along side his mother filed a complaint with the Judicial Branch in Lefkosia on May 2.

Police said the complaint stated that a vehicle approached him while he was walking on foot, that two 20-year-old men in the vehicle called him "Hello" and then drove up with the vehicle next to him. He said that he stopped and opened the door and closed the door again before getting away from the vehicle and said that they continued to drive.

The police said that when the child turned his head and looked at the vehicle, he suspected that the male person sitting in the front passenger seat of the vehicle was holding his phone towards himself and filming it, and in this context, he filed a complaint against the individuals.

The police stated that the owner of the vehicle was identified during the investigation, and the owner of the vehicle gave the name of the person who took the video.

In this context, the police said that they reached the suspect named ROO, and that the suspect was called to the police station, his phone was confiscated and he was arrested as per a pending order obtained from the Lefkcosia District Court, and that he was a registered student at a university.

The police stated that the part of the suspect that could influence the investigation regarding the issue was completed and demanded that the court release him on bail with an appropriate guarantee.

Evaluating the testimony given in court, the judge released him on bail, banned him from going abroad, report to the police station 4 days a week and deposit 30,000 TL in cash.
