Student arrested for breaking the nose of a shop manager in Lefkosa

A man has been arrested and detained for beating and assaulting the manager of a market place in Lefkosa.

The accused, a Nigerian student named only as OE reportedly damaged a property and assaulted a Turkish man around 8:00pm on Monday, May, 8 in front of Cadde Market, operating on İnönü street in Hamitköy, Lefkosa.

He was taken to court on Friday and charged with assault and battery.

Police officer who testified in court said the accused was accused by the manager of a shop in Lefkosa for assault and property damage.

Police said, the man, Hasan Karabulut, 35 who is the manager of the market had accused the suspect of being responsible for a broken a glass in the market. This infuriated the suspect who then hit the man on the head and face with his fists, causing him to break his nose and beat him seriously. 

Police said the manager of the market saw the accused on the same street on Thursday, May, 11 and quickly identified him and informed the police leading to his arrest.

He was arrested on a pending court warrant against him and it was determined that his student permit expired on January 22, 2023.

Police stated that the verbal statement of the suspect named should be investigated and demanded that he be detained in the police for 3 days for investigation purposes.
