Two students detained for stealing a wallet with $3000 from a university cafeteria in Lefkosa

Two people believed to be students were arrested and detained for stealing a wallet with $3,000 cash in it at a university campus in Lefkosa.

The incident happened at Break Point cafeteria at CIU located in Lefkosa on May, 2 but the suspects named only as WNFA and HMA one of them a Syrian were identified and arrested in Haspolat on Wednesday, May, 18.

They were taken to court on Thursday, May, 18 on charges of theft.

Police said they found $400 out of the $3,000 stolen along with the wallet worth 250 TL belonging to one Rasool.

A bank card belonging to THRR was also stolen by an unknown person or persons.

Police said that one of the suspect, WNFA, who was found to be related to the incident, was detected and arrested at the university on Wednesday, with a pending order after he was identified from a camera recording investigations of the incident.

The police stated that during the search of the suspect's house, his wallet and bank card were found, and was taken as evidence.

Police said the second suspect, HAMA was identified in Haspolat, and that $400 of the $3,000 stolen was found at his disposal which was taken as evidence.

The police stated that the suspects voluntarily gave their statements regarding the issue and that if they were released at this stage, it was highly likely that they would affect the investigation, and demanded that they remain in police custody for 3 days at the first stage.
