4G network to be launched in TRNC by July 30

Telsim, the largest telecommunications network in the TRNC, have announced that its long-awaited upgrade to 4.5G mobile internet will be ready for operations on July 30.

Speaking on Thursday morning, at a press conference announcing the launch of 4.5G, Telsim general manager Sefer Tuz said that the end of July will ‘make history’ for the TRNC’s digital sector.

He said that there is an educated young population which knows world standards in Northern Cyprus. “As an industry, we want to realise the digital transformation of this country. The end of July is history for us, we are ready for 4.5G”, Tüz stated.

He also said that the industry must now work towards upgrading its network to 5G.

Pointing out that Telsim has invested in 4.5G, Tüz said, “We are ready to use our resources. We must now work to transition to 5G. We will continue to increase our speed even more. We will continue as a sector, not a competition“, he said.

Telephone users in the TRNC are currently limited to a 3G network, which has data speeds as little as one sixth as fast as 4G.

Meanwhile, 4G mobile internet has been operational in the south of Cyprus since 2015, with 5G operational since 2021.
