Man, 67, sentenced to 11 years behind bars for sexually abusing underage children in Cyprus

The Limassol Criminal Court sentenced a 67-year-old man to 11 years behind bars for sexually abusing children under the age of 13.

This case sheds light on the suffering endured by two young siblings, aged 6 and 8, who fell victim to abuse in 2016, in the man’s house.

Not only were the children subjected to prolonged abuse by the accused, but they were also neglected and abandoned by their mother. Reports from sources suggest that the mother, at certain intervals, maintained a romantic relationship with the accused. Exploiting this dynamic, the man abused the siblings whenever they came to stay at his house with their mother.

The 67-year-old not only committed acts of abuse against the minors but also forced them to witness each other’s sexual exploitation.

According to sources, the case came to light in 2019 when the two siblings found the courage to disclose the ordeal they had endured to the authorities. Despite denying the charges levelled against him, the 67-year-old was found guilty of 12 counts of sexual abuse against minors following an extensive trial in the Limassol Criminal Court.

Upon hearing the court’s verdict and the subsequent 11-year prison sentence, the convicted offender broke down in tears.

The man had been out on conditional release throughout the duration of the trial proceedings until his conviction was handed down.
