Man assaults wife for refusing to go work in the farm

Another Turkish Cypriot man has been arrested and detained for domestic violence.

Turkish Cypriot police said it arrested a man named only as CU for physically assaulting his wife and then threatened her with death.

The incident happened at around 6:00pm on Wednesday, June, 28 in their apartment in Gayretköy.

The suspect was arrested and taken to court on Friday.

Police said the accused beat his wife and threatened her with death on the grounds that she did not go to work in the field in Gayretköy.

Testifying in court, police said the accused told his wife, "I will kill you". 'You will die from here,' and then began to beat her.

Police said it was determined that he had beaten the complainant many times before.  

The accused was ordered to remain in detention for 3 days for more investigations to be carried out on the matter.
