Nigerian student given massive bail bond over accident

A Nigerian student who was involved in a road accident at the weekend given a massive bail condition.

The incident happened at around 11:45am on Saturday, June, 17, near the Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital, along Fazıl Küçük Boulevard in Lefkosa when a 38-year old man, a Nigerian collided with a public mini bus used for public transport.

Seven people who were passengers in the bus were injured in the incident and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The driver of the vehicle who was also injured in the accident was arrested by the police after treatment. He was taken to court afterwards.

Police in a statement on the issue, said the driver of the car had lost control of the vehicle due to careless driving which made the car to cross the barrier in the middle of the road and crashed into a bus coming in the opposite lane.

Police said 317 promil alcohol was found in his system during the alcohol control carried out on him.

On Tuesday, the police told the court to release him on bail with appropriate condition that will enable him appear in court for trial in the future.

Evaluating the testimony given in court, the judge released him on bail on the condition that he is banned from traveling abroad, report to the police 3 days a week, signs a personal bail bond worth 200,000 TL, and deposits 50,000 TL in cash.
