TRNC citizens express their anger over the depreciation of the Turkish Lira

The TRNC Prime Minister, Ünal Üstel has called for calm over the crash of the Turkish Lira which reached a new record against the Pounds Sterling on Wednesday.

Ünal Üstel in a message on Wednesday said, "No one should try to demoralize the people with regard to foreign exchange," adding that the Government will take the necessary step "when the day comes, as before".

The statement was a response to the reactions of citizens on the exchange rates on social media as 1 British Pound approached 30 TL, 1 Euro's 25 TL and 1 Dollar's 24 TL range.

“No one should try to demoralize our people and push them into despair because of the increase in foreign currency and the high cost of living. As before, our government will take the necessary decisions when the time comes to protect the purchasing power of employees, whether in the public or private sector, against the cost of living.”

Citizens also took the opportunity to vent their anger on the issue by reacting angrily on a social media post made by TRNC president, Ersin Tatar. They pointed out that the purchasing power of the people had eroded.
