Escaped prisoners arrested in Akdoğan, police bitten by a dog during search

The three prisoners who escaped from the police van after their arraignment in court on Monday have been rearrested by Turkish Cypriot police. 

Earlier today, Turkish Cypriot police said they were searching for three prisoners who escaped from the police vehicle while they were being taken to prison.

The three suspects identified as, 21-year-old Hasan Takicılar, 21-year-old Aydın Güner and 21-year-old İbrahim Takimcılar who were detained in the Central Prison in Lefkosa for the crimes of beating and stabbing a police officer and rape, were brought to court on Monday when they escaped on their way back to the prison under police supervision.

Two of the suspects, Hasan Teamcilar and Aydın Güner were first captured by the police following a search in Akdoğan.

Police said Hasan Teamcılar was detected in a house while Aydın Güner was caught after his arrest.

While the search was ongoing, a police officer was bitten by a dog found in the courtyard of a house. The injured police officer was taken to the hospital in an ambulance. His condition was stated to be good.

After a long search, the last prisoner, İbrahim Takıcılar, was also caught. 

On the other hand, a person who was found to be related to the issue was also arrested.  

Police found the car stolen by the three suspects and used to escape in the village of Akdoğan. The vehicle was found in a working condition.

Police said they got support from the military and riot police. Armored vehicles were deployed in the search too. Police refereed to the suspects as crime machines who had committed series of crimes in the past.

Greek Cypriot police had announced some measures in case they tried to passed from the north to south Cyprus.
