Man nabbed at Ercan Airport for theft and violence, 5 months after they robbed a Nigerian student

One of three suspects who was wanted for threatening and robbing a Nigerian of 5 million Nigerian Naira with a knife was caught at Ercan Airport while trying to exit the court, five months after the incident.

The suspect identified only as FN, a Nigerian was identified and arrested at Ercan Airport on a pending warrant on Saturday, July, 15 and taken to court on Sunday on charges of "robbery", "forced detention", "threat of violence" and "serious assault".

Police told the court that the suspect and two other suspects at large, PCO and JCN went to the house of the victim in Lefkosa on February, 28, locked the door and threatened the victim's girlfriend with a knife.

They then gave the victim a bank IBAN number to send money while threatening him with a knife. They threatened to kill him if he did not deposit 5 million Nigerian Naira into the account in question.

The victim who was afraid of his life deposited the money.

The victim reported the matter to the police on March, 3 but immigration control on the entry-exit system showed that two of the suspects, JCN and PCO had already left Cyprus on March, 1.

A pending order was obtained from the Lefkosia District Court against the suspects.

The suspect did not give any statement following his arrest. Two phones found on him were taken as evidence and will be examined and investigated whether they are related to the issue.

Police demanded that the suspect be kept in police custody for 3 days so that the investigation could be carried out safely, since it is highly likely that if the suspect is released, it will likely affect the investigation.

The suspect, who responded to the police testimony, claimed that he did not commit such a crime and that he was slandered.
