Turkish Cypriot lawyer shot and injured in Girne

A man who shot and wounded a Turkish Cypriot lawyer in Girne on Tuesday has been arrested by the police at Ercan airport while trying to flee the country.

The suspect named only as YB, 21 shot and injured, Turkish Cypriot lawyer, Seyhan Yıldırım in his office in Girne at around 11:10am on Tuesday, July, 11.

The assailant then escaped the scene of the incident on foot.

Seyhan Yıldırım who was shot in the foot was taken to the hospital in an ambulance and is in good condition.

The suspect was detected by the police while trying to flee the country at Ercan Airport.

Police said he allegedly threw the gun at an empty house in Kyrenia. 

The lawyer who spoke to the media expressed his shock and thanked the police foe responding swiftly.

He said he believed the attack maybe related to a case whose appeal decision is expected to be announced soon.

He said he had received a phone call on Monday from a man saying his brother had a problem with immigration and wanted to meet.

He said he told the caller that he was not in the office because he was on holiday, but eventually arranged to meet him in his office on Tuesday.

According to eyewitness reports, a man was seen running away from Yildirim’s office after a gunshot was heard.
