Student detained for living in the TRNC without a resident permit
The student, a Nigerian was identified and arrested during a search at his residence in Hamitkoy on the night of Wednesday, August, 30, following a tip off. Police said nothing illegal was found on him during the search.
He was taken to court on Thursday on charges of living in the TRNC without a resident permit.
Police said he came into the TRNC on February, 2, 2021 with a 60-day student visa and had been living illegally in the country for 862 days until his arrest.
Police said investigation against the suspect has been completed.
The court ordered the suspect to be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days until trial.
