Cameroonian arrested for allegedly raping a woman in Gönyeli

A man has been detained for 3 days in the first instance for allegedly beating and raping a 19-year-old woman after breaking into her dormitory in Gönyeli.

The suspect named only as MNT, 31, a Cameroonian student at around 12:05am on Saturday, Sept. 23 entered the room of a 19-year-old woman, named only as RA, a Yemeni national who stays in a student dormitory located at Atatürk Caddesi in Gonyeli. 

The suspect also stays in the same dormitory.

Police stated that an investigation was launched into the incident leading to the arrest of the suspect.

He was taken to court on Saturday on charges of rape and assault.

Police officer who testified in court said the suspect first beat the young woman and then raped her.

Police said there are statements to be taken and requested that the suspect be detained for 3 days.

Speaking in court, the suspect said he did not force anyone to do anything, that something happened at the woman's request, but then she gave up and reported him to the police.
