Greek Cypriot man scammed of €9,500 after receiving phone call from an unknown man

A Greek Cypriot man has reported to the police a fraudulent incident after he was scammed of €9,500.

Greek Cypriot police said they are investigating a fraud case after a 39-year-old man reported that he was scammed out of €9,500.

The police on Monday this week explained that the incident happened after the victim received a phone call from an unknown person posing as an official from Interpol.

The caller further claimed that the 39-year-old’s bank account was at risk of being targeted by hackers.

The 39-year-old was then convinced to download an app on his smartphone and hand over his bank details to the unknown caller.

The alleged victim was then also convinced to create a digital wallet on another site and also handed over that information to the caller.

The 39-year-old then checked his account balance only to discover that it has been drained before realizing that he had been scammed.

The complainant then reported the incident to the police.

The police again urged the public to exert extreme caution: do not share your full bank details with anyone else.
