Greek Cypriot woman scam woman of almost €20,000 after claiming to be health official

A 54-year-old Greek Cypriot woman was arrested in Cyprus (south) for fraudulently obtaining money from a woman. 

Greek Cypriot police in an announcement on Sunday said a 54-year-old woman was arrested after she was reported to have scammed a lady for almost €20,000 by claiming she was the Nicosia general hospital head.'

Police in Nicosia said the suspect was arrested on Saturday after the compliant said she received a phone call from the suspect saying her daughter was in urgent need of medical care.

The scammer, who said she is the head of the general hospital, said money was needed urgently as the woman’s daughter had been injured and needed surgery.

During police’s investigation police carried out a search in the home of the woman and found €1,900 in cash and €18,000 of jewellery.
