Man accused of raping and assaulting his wife in Lefkosa

A Turkish man has been detained and set to face trial over allegation of raping rape and assault of his wife.

The incident took place at around 5:00am on Sunday, Oct., 29 in their residence on Lefkosia, City Center area. The suspect was arrested on the same day following a complaint by the wife that he raped and physically assaulted her.

Police said the suspect, named only as PB was taken to court on Monday on charges of serious assault, rape and damage.

Police told the court that the suspect punched his wife in the eye, pulled her by the hair, kicked her in the stomach, dragged her on the ground, took her to the bedroom, hit her on the back, and continued to beat her.

Police stated that the suspect then ripped his wife's shorts, took them off and raped her. Police said the young woman came to the police at 8:00am in the morning, filed a complaint, and was taken to the hospital and examined by a doctor.

Police said that bruises were detected on many parts of the woman's body. 

Police stated that the suspect did not accept the accusations and instead said that his wife had attacked him, so he was examined by a doctor, but no signs of assault were detected. 

Police stated that an investigation was carried out at the scene and the scene was photographed, adding that the suspect and his wife wanted a divorce and both demanded separation. 

Noting that the investigation was continuing, the police requested that the suspect be detained for 3 days.

The suspect's lawyer, told the court that it was not possible for the rape allegation to be true because his client had a sexual disorder. Upon this allegation, the investigating officer stated that the suspect had made a statement to this effect and that he would be checked by a urologist.
