Man arrested for stealing 2 million TL of GSM network

A Turkish man has been arrested and detained after he was suspected of illegally transferring 11,900,000 TL to his own account from bulk SMS messages belonging to a virtual betting site.

The suspect only identified as E.H. was paraded in court in Lefkosa on Thursday on charges of fraud.

The suspect was an assistant manager with a GSM operator in North Cyprus.

Police told the court that an additional two million Turkish Lira were found in the company’s accounts.

Police said it was also determined that the suspect told two people to whom he sold SMS messages that there was a problem with their company accounts, and that he wanted the advertising SMS fees to be transferred to his personal account.

The police also said that they determined that the suspect told 10 people that he wanted them to transfer the money to his account in the same way, and that they were trying to reach the people in question.

The police stated that there were wanted persons and statements to be taken and requested that the suspect be detained for 4 more days.
