A TRNC court on Thursday sentenced a Turkish national to six-months in prison for making a false statement about a missing passport.

The defendant, named only as AA was sentenced to 6-months in prison by the Lefkosa High Criminal Court on Thursday, Oct., 5 after he was found guilty of the charges brought against him.

According to report, AA had gone to a police station in Lefkcosia on March 21, 2023 and declared that he lost his passport somewhere in Lefkcosia on March 19, 2023, even though he did not lose it and was at work the time.

He was arrested on his return to the TRNC on July, 27, after investigation revealed that the documents were fake.

Delivering the judgement, the judge noted that crimes such as document forgery had become widespread and announced that they sentenced the defendant to 6 months in prison.
